When you need custom tooling, tight tolerance parts, complex contoured shapes, tiny holes, and delicate components in industries such as oil and gas, the wire EDM process that forms a workpiece using sparks or electrical discharges is an excellent complement to other machining processes.
Electrical discharge machining (EDM) is an excellent way to produce close tolerance parts with a good surface finish. The process, conducted by submerging two spools of wire in a tank of deionized water, subtracts metal according to specs as metal is removed through the constant movement of the spools operating in an electrical field between two electrodes. The water continually flushes away debris from the cutting zone.
